Friends Of Fenny Stratford - Spring Update
Fenny Feet – We are pleased to note people enjoying the way-marked ‘blue’ route around the town. Long term it is planned that there will be three walks, designated by colour. The leaflet to accompany this walk has been well circulated via our information stall, walks arranged and is available from the town council offices in Queensway. Discussions are underway for the routes of the red and green walks and no doubt they will be marked during the year.
Regular Walks – There are regular group walks at weekends. At present these are roughly one per month. Regular attendees will be contacted or for up to the minute information look at our facebook page. The walk on Sunday 26th May will follow the Blue Route, commences from the railway station at 1pm. Bring your children or your dog.
Tourist Signs –An additional large Tourist Sign has been erected in the A5 slip road to be opposite the exit to the new McDonalds. This is similar in style to the one in Aylesbury Street. Similar signs are being considered for along the canal to encourage boating tourists into the town. If you can think of other good locations then please put them forward. We have one site for the canal that requires a frame to be constructed to support a weather resistant sign. At present we have no volunteer for this task or a sponsor if we have to employ someone to construct this. If you can assist please let us know.
Dog Mess Signs – Light hearted signs requesting dog owners remove dofgg mess have been obtained and these are being put up in problem locations.
Sycamore Avenue Noticeboard – This is now very regularly updated. If you have any community event you would like included please send us an email.
General Meeting – A general meeting took place on 30th April at the George Street Community Centre. Thank you to all who attended and for the supportive comments. Many new faces became members for the year with additional new members signed up at Love Bletchley Day.
Midsummer Madness – Our information stall will be at this event held In Leon Recreation Ground, Fenny Stratford from 1.30 pm on Sunday 23rd June. Please come and say hello. If you can volunteer for the day please let us know. This is a good chance to learn of the activities taking place at present and you can join one or more of the sub-groups taking individual projects forward.
Fenny Poppers Festival 18th August – The group has agreed to volunteer for litter picking duties on the day in addition to running our information stall. If you can volunteer for this day please let us know. This whole event is volunteer run so please join in or bring the whole family and friends on the day.
Fenny Stratford Action Plan – This is now published and it is pleasing to see what has been achieved to date. We can all look around the town and see matters outstanding. Copies will be available to read on our information stall at local events or there is a copy at the town council offices.
This Website – We are looking for someone to regularly update this website and to post information forwarded by others. Training and assistance will be given. If you have a computer or lap top and would enjoy this task then please let us know. You will be the most up to date person in the community!
Jane Forder – Jane has advised she is to be leaving her regeneration role in the Council Offices in the near future for a far flung northern location. Her position is presently being advertised. Jane has been a great friend and supporter of the town and this group. We wish to publicly thank her for this.
Rita Venn – It is with great sorrow we learned that Rita had recently died. She gave enormous amounts of her time supporting and promoting Fenny Stratford and was always willing to do the hard unwanted jobs. All communities need people like Rita and she will certainly be missed.
General – Thank you to all who are playing an active role. We actively seek out ideas from local residents and businesses. Where these ideas can be established as having substantive support we will seek to see them come to fruition either through activity by the group itself or by encouraging the existing frameworks of provision to operate.
If you would like to provide assistance to the group by becoming a volunteer or aiding funding then please do so. Volunteers can give vastly differing amounts of time. You may want to devote time to a particular project, help on our stall at community events, help with writing text for and updating this website and our Facebook pages or assist in raising funds. Whatever role you see for yourself we welcome your involvement.
Thank you if you can help in any way, large or small.
